Taipei, Aug. 23 (CNA) Scientists at Taiwan's National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) have developed a fiber optic sugar sensor using silk from golden orb weaver spiders, a technology they say could eventually be used to create next-generation glucose meters for diabetics.
The light-guiding properties of spider silk have been harnessed to develop a sensor that detects and measures small changes in the refractive index of a biological solution including glucose.
