Students will showcase social justice-focused artwork throughout Ypsilanti Updated Mar 04, 2021; Facebook Share YPSILANTI, MI Fifty-eight student-created pieces of artwork depicting diversity, equity and justice will be displayed throughout Ypsilanti soon. The art pieces, created by Ypsilanti Community Schools students, were supposed to be part of an exhibition featured at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington D.C. in May 2020, art teacher Kathy Fisk said. When that display didn’t happen, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the artwork was redesigned as streetscape banners being installed throughout the city. The Ypsilanti City Council unanimously approved the plan on Tuesday, March 2, and the goal is to have the artwork installed by mid-March to celebrate National Youth Arts Month, officials said. YCS arts education staff will work with the Department of Public Services to make arrangements for installation.
