Washington: Amid spiraling tension between India and the US over the passage of America’s warship through Indian waters, Washington sought to sink differences with New Delhi, saying it values its partnership with India.
The passage of the US warship for a naval operation, through India s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off the Lakshadweep coast, without prior consent last week has triggered discord between the two countries with New Delhi immediately registering its opposition through diplomatic channels.

The United States has termed its unapproved exercise within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone, off the Lakshadweep Islands, an innocent move, PTI reported on Saturday. But America indicated that it did not carry out military movement in the zone, according to NDTV.
The USS John Paul Jones, a destroyer ship, had passed through the exclusive zone in the Arabian Sea without taking India’s permission on April 7. “I can tell you that the USS John Paul Jones asserted navigational rights and freedoms in the vicinity of the Republic of the Maldives by conducting innocent passage through its territorial sea in normal operations within its exclusive economic zone without requesting prior permission,”

New Delhi: The United States has defended the passage of its American warship through the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off the Lakshadweep Islands, without prior consent, calling the move consistent with international law .
The US Navy on April 7 conducted a freedom of navigation operation in Indian waters without prior consent, drawing a reaction from India, which on Friday said it has conveyed concerns to Washington through diplomatic channels.
