Among the eight Union Territories, Delhi recorded the highest number of human trafficking cases in 2021 with a 73.5 per cent rise in cases over 2020, according to NCRB data.

The city scored 103.4 per 1-lakh people in terms of the number of cognisable offences, marching ahead of Pune, which stood second (256.8) and third-ranked Hyderabad (259.9), the data showed.

According to NCRB data, from 2010 till 2020, 168 cases were filed in Bihar, followed by Tamil Nadu (139), Uttar Pradesh (115), Jharkhand (62), Karnataka (50) and Odisha (30).

When the Union government had announced the setting up of these courts, legal and child rights experts had warned of their limited impact unless more judges were appointed and public prosecutors trained to deal with POCSO cases.
