The death toll from the floods that inundated southern and eastern regions in the country on Christmas day rose to 51, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday.

From 46 on Friday, the number of people who perished in heavy rain that inundated villages in the Visayas and Mindanao on Christmas Day climbed to 49 yester-day.

Meanwhile, 24,557 families or 101,613 individuals continue to seek shelter from the effects of the rains and remain displaced. 

In its 6 a.m. bulletin, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Managing Council said that 25 were now confirmed dead after the shear line, while 26 were still missing and 9 remained injured.
