Those russian-speaking portions of eastern ukraine, and kind of backing off what they were saying relative to kyiv? is this a recognition on their part? some type of failure? >> yeah, id put this in the category of reality sucks occasionally. and the russians are encountering that. you know, plan "a," as we all know was blitz. go driving across ukraine, decapitate zelenskyy, puppet regime, all that to happen within three to five days. well, plan "a" failed. and has failed almost in a spectacular...

Before any determination can be -- could russia even control that much terrain. >> john: i dont think this thing is anywhere near over, do you? >> no, i mean -- urban fighting like this in these dense urban areas and quite honestly, the lack of ability for the russian army to command and control, and to logistically supply itself has given the ukrainians a leg up that puts their negotiating position much greater than it was a couple weeks ago. >> john: boy, a month and a little bit ago, who woul...

2014. so its a safe zone for the russian forces. the sadness here, jonathan, it makes mariupol key because thats dead in the center of that donbas region. its not sympathetic to the russians to say the least. its been pounded to dust. but look for the russians to consolidate in the southeast. that gives putin i think in his view the strongest negotiating position going to the talks. >> and more on the map there, that potential land bridge building. so its obviously that vladimir putin overestima...

So you have these incidences. its very clear that you have a morale problem within the russian military perhaps all the way up into the ministry of defense, you know, in russia. but at the same time, what really matters is what people think is going on, what they perceive is happening on the battlefield. so it only takes, you know, enough troops to commit brutalities to frighten enough of the ukrainian population to change zelenskyys position at the negotiating table. and even there are russian ...

Between ukrainians and russians. most recently in turkey. there again, confusion what russias negotiating position is and contradictory statements from, for example, lavrov, russias foreign ministry, foreign minister and peskov, the kremlin spokesman about what russias aims are keying back into what weve been talking ak. what are putins orders? who is prepared to collar phi what his red lines and bottom lines are? clearly to judge by the very mixed range of signals coming out of russian negotiat...

Goal in all of this, a negotiating position with the afghan government or ultimate control? i dont believe that their objective is to completely take over the whole country again because they saw that that did not really work out well the first time. they actually from 96 when they started as an organisation were never able to can fully conquer the territory. i think what you will see them want to do is to rule and govern in the areas where they are the majority. and i think that they will be wi...
