Yhokha advises Kohima residents to live smart

Our CorrespondentKohima, July 30 (EMN): Advisor of Technical Education and Election, Medo Yhokha, on Saturday told the residents of Kohima to adapt to smart living along with the smart city mission, and not let infrastructure projects alone be smart. He stated this during the foundation stone laying ceremony for construction of Kitsubozou community hall-cum-multi-parking at Dobashi Lane in Kitsubozou Colony. Yhokha emphasised that the people need to be smart by adopting behavioural change in attitude, lifestyle, cleanliness and civic sense. Laying the foundation stone for the construction of community building under slum redevelopment, a component of Smart City Mission Kohima, he exuded hope that the place would be built to bind people together and unify the society. He acknowledged the Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affair, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, and Smart City Mission for allocating the fund. Yes Bank Ltd. launches Kohima branch - Eastern Mirror

The bank is located at Kire Building, Keziekie, North Block, below North Police Station, Kohima. Dr. Kire, in his address, exhorted the bank staff to live up to the expectations of the people. Making a comparison of banking staff to medical practitioners, he stressed on the need to be courteous. He suggested having a separate counter for senior citizens so as to facilitate them with proper guidance and services. Let's make Nagaland the most liveable state — Rio

Our Correspondent Kohima, June 28 (EMN): Chief Minister Niephiu Rio, on Tuesday, called for collective effort to make Nagaland the most liveable place, known for its facilities, kindness, and hospitality rather than the tag of ‘disturbed state’. He was addressing the state function for Cleanest Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Wards Award 2022 held at Capital Convention Centre in Kohima. Rio appreciated the department and the officials involved for their initiatives to keep the towns clean, while exuding confidence that it would carry a positive message to everyone. Despite Nagaland being a small state having municipalities and town councils, he said awareness and cleanliness to make the state a garbage-free movement should become not only be one time but consistent and a way of life. Rio, however, lamented that the state does not have proper town planning, by-laws and the government is faced with a lot of problems in the upkeep of the city such as amenities, roads, street lights, water supply, and shops and markets which are haphazardly placed in the towns. Nagaland observes 'International Day of Yoga'

Green pledge: Manipur beat Nagaland in friendly match

Our Correspondent Kohima, June 4 (EMN): Manipur beat Nagaland 3-2 in the friendly football exhibition match played to create environmental consciousness among citizens, on the eve of World Environment Day at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on Saturday. The friendly match was the first of its kind with Kangleipak Pari XI (Manipur) featuring Indian Super League players. As for Kohima Town Club XI (representing Nagaland), the players were selected from various local clubs. Organised by the KTC in collaboration with Kohima Forest Division, the match was a tool to create awareness about climate crisis and global warming around the world. Tree saplings were also distributed to spectators. Nyithong Magh of Kohima Town Club XI scored the opening goal. But the equaliser goal came from Kangleipak Pari XI team captain, Samboi of East Bengal FC, who later scored another goal, sealing victory for the team. LAYO sets trend for others to emulate - Eastern Mirror

Our CorrespondentKohima, June 1 (EMN): Emerging from what it was earlier known for its notoriety and anti-social activities two decades ago, the Lower Agri ward in Kohima is now thriving and transformed as one of the peaceful colonies in Kohima. This was made known during the 25th anniversary celebration of Lower Agri Youth Organisation (LAYO) held at Penta Point on Wednesday. “Once upon a time, the colony was tagged as the “atrocious” and “worst” colony with youth involved in substance abuse and other anti-social elements. This had led to the formation of the colony youth body for peaceful co-existence,” stated LAYO president, Abel Assumi. With the consent from the ward chairman, the youth organisation was formed on June 1, 1997. Under the body, it brought all the youths together irrespective of caste, colour, and religion but unity. Today, things have changed for the better and many activities were taken up, Assumi added. 12 children receive PM CARES funding - Eastern Mirror

Our CorrespondentKohima, May 30 (EMN): A total of 12 out of 14 children from Nagaland, who were identified for the PM CARES fund, received ex-gratia amounting to INR 50,000 from the prime minister on Monday. The funds were released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a nationwide virtual event and a state-level programme for the same was held in Kohima, at the Conference Hall, Nagaland Civil Secretariat. Commissioner and Secretary, Sarah R Ritse stated that Nagaland is in the initial stage of implementation of the scheme where it is in the process of identification of the beneficiaries. It was informed that till date, the state has identified 14 beneficiaries, out of which 12 of them were receiving the ex-gratia from the Prime Minister, while two could not receive on Monday due to want of some documentation. Prior to the commencement of the event, Sarah R Ritse gave an introduction of the PM CARES for Children scheme. LFHSS students organise cleanliness drive

Our CorrespondentKohima, May 29 (EMN): A total 55 students of class 12 from Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS) along with seven teachers under the guidance of its principal, Sr. Lucy Gangmei, undertook a cleanliness drive at Sokhriezie Park, BOC in Kohima on May 28 under the ‘Laudato Si’ project. The cleanliness drive was also accompanied by representatives from Tsiituonuomia (T) Khel village council, T Khel youth organisation and T Khel students’ union. The students contributed potted plants and saplings to the park. It was informed that the main purpose of the drive was to practice some goals of the ‘Laudato Si: response to the cry of the earth, ecological education, emphasis on community involvement and participatory action etc.’ The ‘Laudato Si’ is a letter from Pope Francis to everyone on the planet urging all to protect the earth – our common home.
