The campus is vacant and scheduled to be demolished later this year.Â
Simulation drills, held daily until Friday, include a large convergence of emergency vehicles and personnel from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. just for fire crews.
âWe are very fortunate to be able to participate and offer this training in collaboration with several partners and agencies,â said Jay Huffty, NBISD director of safety and security. âThis is a rare opportunity and we have spent several days coordinating this training. This weekâs exercises will help us sharpen our skills and allow us to enhance the safety and security of the community.â
Both districts were closed on Monday.
âWe appreciate your patience with us as we continued to repair and clean issues at campuses today,â NBISD Superintendent Randy Moczygemba said in a letter to parents Monday afternoon. âOverall, we had leaks at six of our 15 campuses and we continued to find new leaks today. Some classrooms had to be totally relocated to different rooms.â
New Braunfels Utilities lifted its boil water notice Sunday, but New Braunfels Middle School is on Green Valley Water System which is still under one, the district said.
For Comal ISD, Specht Elementary School is the only campus out of operation.

New Braunfels Independent School District trustees approved the new name at its Monday night meeting out of a list that also included New Braunfels Heritage High School, New Braunfels Legend Point High School and New Braunfels East High School.
The vote passed 5-2 with board president Sherry Harrison and newly-elected trustee John Tucker voting against. Board vice president Wes Clark, secretary David Heefner, newly-elected trustee Nancy York and trustees Keith D. Smith and Eric Bergquist voted in favor.Â
