New Canaan Public Schools officials say they’ve updated a quarantining requirement that affects many sports-oriented families.
Until this week, if a family traveled out-of-state for more than 24 hours for a sports tournament, they’d be required to quarantine for a minimum of seven days after testing negative for COVID-19 virus on their return, or 10 days without a test-out, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bryan Luizzi told members of the Board of Education said during the elected body’s meeting last week.
Luizzi said during the meeting, held May 3 via videoconference, that he and others were seeking approval from health officials to update the change the requirement so that kids involved in sports could return to school faster.
In tonight s outcall, New Canaan First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said that it is expected that on Wednesday, May 12th, the FDA will grant emergency use authorization to Pfizer for 12-15 year olds to be vaccinated. 98% of residents 65 and older vaccinate, 81% of residents 45-64 vaccinated
In this evening s community outcall, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan reported that the state DPH reports that about 98% of our 3,000 New Canaan seniors over 65 have been vaccinated.
DPH also reports that 81% of the 45-64 age group and 61% across all eligible age groups (16 and over) in New Canaan have received at least one dose of vaccination. These are very encouraging numbers and we thank all residents for their patience and participation with the vaccination process. At least in New Canaan and Connecticut, we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel for this historic pandemic.
