From Friday April 9-May 2, the Front Street Art Gallery, 124 Front St., will feature “Scituate Arts Juried Show.”
This year, due to COVID-19, the show was juried from over 170 online entries. The 80-plus accepted entries will be dropped off at the Gallery where the jurors will select the award winners. A Best in Show winner will be announced April 8. Masks are required while browsing the show.
The jurors are Michelle Clarke, Nan Daly and Margaret McWethy. Clarke, Hanover artist and 2019 Best in Show winner at the SAA 2019 Juried Show, is a self-taught artist. Daly grew up climbing trees in a city bordering the Hudson and the Catskills of New York. She has exhibited at the Duxbury Art Complex Museum, the Zullo Gallery, Front Street Art Gallery, the Natick Center for the Arts, the Attleboro Art Museum and the WBGH Juried Fine Art Auction. She’s a signature member of the New England Waterco
On a February day when the air is chilled and the ground is adrift with snow, most folks long to hunker down indoors. Howard Park and Lisa Miceli venture out. Both are artists, and they gather accoutrements from their studio inside Stonington’s Velvet Mill and tromp off in search of a captivating place to paint.
On this day, it was to Stonington Meadows, but their scenic sites have included the likes of Haley Farm and Denison Homestead.
Plein air painting may have become a more popular avocation over the past year creating art while socially distanced and in the great outdoors is pandemic-friendly, after all but Park and Miceli were enthusiasts long before COVID-19 existed. That said, they recognize the value of this method of painting during this time.
