Continuing culture war focus, DeSantis signs law restricting teaching of race-related issues in schools, private sector employee training

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law restricting the way race-related issues are taught in public schools and in private workplaces in Florida. Lessons that might compel some people to feel uncomfortable would be banned with DeSantis saying he was countering “pernicious ideologies like critical race theory." Reality is far different from the picture DeSantis is painting, says state Sen. Rosalind Osgood. “He’s weaponizing the school system. He’s weaponizing education to stir up his base. It’s all a smoke screen.”

Florida Vaccine Updates: COVID-19 Vaccine Site to Open at Inter Miami Stadium, State Adds Text Alerts for Distribution Updates

Florida Surpasses 1.5 Million COVID-19 Cases The 14,896 new confirmed COVID-19 cases brought Florida's total to 1,503,482 since the outbreak began, according to figures released by the state's department of health. ‘We're Not Doing Any Tourists' at Vaccine Sites: Florida Gov. DeSantis Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state is continuing to prioritize seniors for the COVID-19 vaccine but said the state isn't making them available to tourists. DeSantis held a news conference at The Villages Tuesday morning to give an update on the state's vaccination progress. "We're not doing any tourists, some of these nursing home people may live here six months of the year so that's a little bit different," DeSantis said. "We have people all over the country, because we put seniors first and because people actually see shots going in arms, you have literally people all over the world and all over the country calling here to see. We're not doing that, we're not doing it for tourists, we're not doing it for interlopers."
