Archdiocese of New Orleans, SNAP, often at odds, meet to discuss path forward amid church sex abuse By Nicole Mumphrey | January 6, 2021 at 10:44 AM CST - Updated January 6 at 10:44 AM NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond and leaders for the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests met face-to-face recently to discuss a path forward amid allegations of church sex abuse. For the past 18 months, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and SNAP leadership have appeared at odds over how the archdiocese has handled claims of abuse by clergy. The Archdiocese of New Orleans released a statement Wednesday: “In recent weeks, it has become obvious to us that though we may have different ideas and methods, we have common goals: healing for victims, their families and prevention of abuse. Let us be clear, clergy sexual abuse is a scandal, it is a sin, and it cannot be tolerated. The Archbishop stated two years ago that the sexual abuse of minors is a crime.

A Monster in our Midst: The Story of George Brignac It was 1953, and George Brignac was fresh out of high school when he joined the regional chapter of the Christian Brothers. He spent seven years with the Catholic order, which founded four well-known local schools: St. Paul’s in Covington, De La Salle and Christian Brothers in New Orleans, and Archbishop Rummel in Metairie. But, by 1960, the order had expelled him. Brignac told some people it was for “reasons of health.” Another time, his superior in the order said Brignac found “obedience difficult.” Years later, his twin, a priest named Horace L. “H.L.” Brignac, revealed the truth in a statement to police: George Brignac had been “too friendly with boys.”
