The Post’s arts editor Enid Tsui reports back from opening week at the Venice Biennale 2024 with the pavilions, exhibitions, artists and performances that stood out for her.

The Alexandrian-born artist Wael Shawky (b. 1971) will represent Egypt at the 60th International Venice Biennale.

Wael Shawky's contemporary art film, "I Am Hymns of the New Temples," premiered at Pompeii's Archaeological Park.

From May 12 to 14,  2023, the Small Theatre “Odeion”—one of the theaters of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii—is hosting the international preview of the new film work by the Egyptian artist Wael Shawky (Alexandria, Egypt, 1971) I Am Hymns of the New Temples.

President Russell M. Nelson closed the two-day General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday by announcing 15 new temples — including one in Jakarta, Indonesia, the most populous Muslim nation in the world.

• Yorba Linda, Calif. • The Smithfield temple will be the 26th in Utah. Fifteen are currently operating in the state, and two more — the historic Salt Lake and St. George structures — are undergoing renovations.
