P-plater charged after fatal car crash in Leppington which killed Nicholas Hoenselaars, 18

00:10 EDT, 26 December 2020 15 shares A P-plater has been charged after the car he was driving smashed into a power pole on Christmas eve - tragically claiming the life of his teenage passenger. The 18-year-old was driving his Mitsubishi Lancer along Eastwood Road in Leppington, south-west Sydney, on Thursday night with Nicholas Hoenselaars, 18, in the front seat. Police say they tried to stop the allegedly speeding car around 11.20pm and a short pursuit was carried out before the Mitsubishi ploughed into the pole, sending both teenagers flying. Tragically, Mr Hoenselaars was killed, while the driver was sent to hospital with arm injuries and for mandatory testing.

  A P-plater has been charged over a fatal Christmas Eve crash that claimed the life of his 18-year-old passenger in Sydney's southwest. Police will allege officers attempted to stop the 18-year-old driving a Lancer in Leppington about 11.20pm on Christmas Eve for speeding. The car was split in two. Picture 7 News It will be alleged there was a short pursuit before the car struck a power pole on Eastwood Road and both men were thrown from the car. Nicholas Hoenselaars, 18, a passenger in the Lancer, tragically died at the scene. It is believed he was not wearing a seatbelt. Nicholas Hoenselaars (left) tragically died at the scene.
