The COVID-19 vaccination effort in Berrien County is ramping up. Speaking during a Tuesday update, Spectrum Health Lakeland CEO Loren Hamel said the supply is improving.
“The vaccine is becoming more plentiful,” Hamel said. “As you heard, President Biden suggests we’re going to have enough for everybody in May. I hope that transpires without a glitch. It looks like we’re getting much more in the next few weeks than we had in the last few weeks. We long for that.”
Hamel said you should get whatever vaccine you can, whether it’s Moderna, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson. Berrien County Health Officer Nicki Britten said there are more providers of the shots coming online, now including some Walgreen’s stores.

COVID-19 case numbers continue to drop in Berrien County.
“We have continued good news,” says Berrien County Health Department health officer Nicki Britten. “We are continuing to see the downward trend in positive COVID-19 cases. We are down under about 20 new cases per day, and that continues to be really, really encouraging and is a far cry from where we were in November.”
She adds tests are showing less than 5% with COVID-19. As for vaccinations, she says 32,000 shots have been given and about 17% in the county have at least one shot. Kendall Troyer of Spectrum Health Lakeland says they are making efforts to get to seniors who can’t get to a clinic.
