Visible in the polar regions of the northern and southern hemispheres, the aurora is a magical spectacle that lights up the night sky

The Northern and Southern Lights put on quite a show this year - and some of the worlds most talented photographers were on hand to capture them in all their dazzling glory.

Capture the Atlas has published its Northern Lights Photographer of the Year showcase, sharing 25 of the best aurora photos.

This year, the judges at the Epson International Pano Awards plucked the winners from 4,129 entries from more than 1,000 photographers in 98 countries worldwide.
