Lt Gen Pande will be the 29th Chief of Army Staff and would be succeeding Gen MM Naravane.

Manoj Pande is the Indian Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General who will succeed General Manoj Mukund Naravane on April 30.

Lieutenant General Manoj Pande has been named the new Army Chief, news agency ANI reported on Monday.

Pande will become the first commander from the Corps of Engineers to take charge of the 1.3-million-strong force as the position has been held so far by officers from infantry, artillery and armoured regiments.

Lieutenant General Manoj Pande is set to become the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to become the Chief of Army Staff. He was the commander-in-chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command before he took charge of the Eastern Command.

Lt Gen Manoj Pande will be the next Army Chief succeeding Gen MM Naravane whose tenure ends by the end of this month, officials said on Monday.

Lt General Manoj Pande will take charge as the next Army Chief after incumbent General MM Naravane retires on April 30. Currently serving as the Vice Chief, he will become the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to take charge of the Army.
