The reported 12 cases of COVID-19 at Barrie’s Canada Post distribution centre on Morrow Road have all been resolved, says a spokesperson for the Crown corporation.
The positive cases at the facility, which is located near Essa Road and Highway 400, had been identified dating back to Dec. 1, with the last update on the workplace outbreak coming Dec. 15.
Canada Post media relations spokesperson Nicole Lecompte told
BarrieToday the facility is now in the clear and all of the individuals have recovered.
“All cases at the Barrie facility are now resolved and there have been no new cases reported since Dec. 14,” said Lecompte. “The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has moved the facility on Morrow Road out of outbreak status.”

It’s a small miracle an outbreak of COVID-19 hasn’t happened at Edmonton’s Canada Post processing plant, says the local union president.
The postal service has been operating non-stop across the country following a rise in demand from Canadians looking to ship packages during the holiday season. Canada Post spokeswoman Nicole Lecompte said in an email Wednesday holiday parcel volume started a week earlier than usual in mid-November and heavy peak levels are anticipated to continue beyond Christmas.

THIS year’s hot-ticket item for the holidays? Good old-fashioned postage stamps.
Canada Post spokeswoman Nicole Lecompte said in an email many postal outlets are seeing an unprecedented uptick in sales of stamps and other shipping supplies this holiday season.
She chalks this up to an influx of people choosing to mail gifts and holiday cards to loved ones, rather than visiting them in person. Further, she said all post offices are seeing an increase in shipments from small- and medium-sized businesses.

That surge of pandemic-related demand may have caused a shortage of stamps at some post offices. She said Canada Post has already shipped orders to restock post offices across the country.
