The former Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe has died of suspected COVID-19 complications.
The late Don’s death was confirmed by both the Chairman of the UNILAG chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Dele Ashiru, as well as the Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professsor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Mr A.O. Bolarinwa.
The professor of Systems Engineering was said to have died on Sunday, January 3, 2020.
While those who broke the news of his death are not sure of the ailment that led to his death, unconfirmed sources, including announcemeents made on the UNILAG alumni WhatsApp group, said the professor died of COVID-19 complications.

Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe is dead. He died on Sunday in Lagos of suspected COVID-19 complications.
Both UNILAG branch Chairman of THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Dele Ashiru and Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professsor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Mr A.O. Bolarinwa, confirmed the death of the professor of Systems Engineering.
Though they said the were not sure of the cause of his death, unconfirmed sources including the UNILAG alumni group Whatsaap platform said the professor died of COVID-19 complications.

The Federal Government, on Thursday, confirmed that Nigeria was in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and was considering a second lockdown.
But the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and experts in the health sector are warning against returning to lockdown as it would crumble the economy.
Meanwhile, a professor of virology, Oyewole Tomori, said that despite measures in place to contain coronavirus, nearly 50, 000 travelers into Nigeria were not tested for the virus within a period of eight weeks, saying this may have contributed to the spread of the virus even if insignificantly.
