Military: 220 Bandits Killed, 642 Kidnapped Victims Rescued in North-west

Francis Sardauna in Katsina The Nigerian Army has said that troops of Operation Sahel Sanity have killed 220 bandits and rescued 642 kidnapped victims as part of efforts to restore peace and normalcy in communities hitherto captured by the hoodlums in the North-west. The troops also destroyed 197 bandits enclaves, including the notorious Katsina Dangote triangle and nabbed 335 suspected bandits, 326 illegal miners in Kebbi, Kaduna, Niger, Zamfara and Katsina States. The acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig-General Benard Onyeuko, said yesterday at a press conference on the activities of the troops between July 1 and December 31, 2020 in Faskari, Katsina State, that 73 AK-47 rifles, one GPMG and 194 Dane guns were also captured from the bandits.

Zamfara community disagree with Army on killing of 220 bandits

Punch Newspapers Sections Maiharaji Altine, Gusau The Nigerian Army and some community leaders in Dansandau Emirate of Maru LGA, Zamfara State, have differed over the claim that it (Army) had recorded a huge success in the fight against terrorism and kidnapping in the North-West. While the Army claimed that it neutralised 220 bandits, rescued 642 kidnapped victims, foiled 167 banditry and 81 kidnapped attempts from June to December last year, the community leaders insisted that they had yet to see the impact of the military’s success against terror and kidnapping in the geo-political zone. The acting Director Defence, Media Operations, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, while briefing newsmen in Faskari Super Camp Four on Wednesday, added that apart from the killing of 220 bandits, 197 bandits’ camps were also destroyed during the period under review.
