Teachers, staff recognized for impact in Fort Wayne Community Schools

Banks presents service medals to veteran s family

KENDALLVILLE — Family members said Glenn Kintzel never spoke very much about his World War II service in the U.S. Army. He worked as a carpenter most of his life, building homes in the Lakeville area in Marshall County before he died in 2009. It’s a miracle that Kintzel survived the war. He was captured and held as a prisoner of war three times, first by the Italians and then twice by the Nazis in Germany, and escaped every time. On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Jim Banks presented the Bronze Star, the fourth highest honor, and other medals posthumously to Kintzel’s family members, Sandra Dickerson, Nikki Sprunger, Kelly Meeks and Thomas Dickerson, in a ceremony at American Legion Post 86 in Kendallville.

Official at FWCS gets new title ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette D. Faye Williams-Robbins will soon trade her mouthful of a title at Fort Wayne Community Schools with a simpler description of her duties – deputy superintendent. The change isn t official yet, but Superintendent Mark Daniel is already introducing Williams-Robbins that way rather than calling her chief of secondary and student, family and community engagement. The board is expected to approve this new title and others next month, FWCS spokeswoman Krista Stockman said. Daniel told staff about the changes Wednesday. “To support the curriculum work ahead, I am making some changes in our organizational chart, primarily to recognize and reflect the importance of the work being done,” Daniel said in a message to staff.
