The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is considering doubling the property tax on hostels and paying guest facilities by charging commercial rates. This move may increase the financial burden on students and bachelors residing in these facilities.
NCP leader Nilesh Nikam, a former leader of house in PMC in whose tenure the civic body had started the scheme, said the scheme was launched after studying the entire situation to check losses of civic body.
Sandip Shashikant Kale, 32, said he is an NCP worker and a “big fan” of Pawar. He also heads the Saheb Foundation, named after Pawar, which does social work.
Pawar made the announcement at the launch of the second edition of his autobiography, Lok Majhe Sangati, at the Y B Chavan Centre in Mumbai, in the presence of his wife Pratibha, daughter Supriya Sule, nephew Ajit Pawar, and senior party leaders.
With elections around the corner, the Congress and Shiv Sena have extended support to the agitation against the project while the NCP appeared divided on the issue.
