Bass René Pape sang the betrayed King Marke, mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova was Brangäne, who delivers the potion that seals the lovers’ fate, and bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin was Tristan’s friend and protector, Kurwenal.
