In a race to contain the spread of the rare and deadly Nipah virus, which has claimed the lives of two individuals, Kerala took swift measures on Wednesday. The state temporarily shuttered some schools, offices, and public transport services in an effort to mitigate the outbreak.

Former Health Minister and senior ruling CPI(M) MLA K K Shailaja has stated that Kerala does not need to worry about the Nipah outbreak in Kozhikode as the situation is not as severe as it was in 2018. Shailaja, who successfully contained the Nipah infection in 2018, mentioned that the state now has protocols and procedures in place to effectively fight and prevent the spread of the infection.
Another Nipah virus infection has been confirmed in Kerala, taking the total cases to five. Two people have died and the other three, including a nine-year-old boy, are undergoing treatment.
