The Goa government has challenged the acquittal of journalist Tarun Tejpal in the sexual assault case of a colleague at the Tehelka magazine of which he was the editor.

Panaji: Indian journalist and the founder of Tehelka magazine Tarun Tejpal was acquitted by a court in Goa on Friday. He was accused of raping a former colleague eight years ago. He is the former editor-in-chief of the magazine.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the government will challenge the order before the High Court. Tejpal was accused of sexually assaulting the young woman in an elevator of a five-star resort in Goa during an event in 2013. He was arrested the same year.

Panaji: A sessions court in Goa on Wednesday (May 19) said it will pronounce the verdict in the Tarun Tejpal case on May 21. The former Tehelka editor-in-chief is accused of sexually assaulting a female colleague inside the elevator of a luxury hotel in Goa in 2013.
The additional district court was to pronounce the verdict on April 27 but judge Kshama Joshi had adjourned the verdict to May 12. On May 12, it was further adjourned to May 19. The court had earlier said the adjournment was due to lack of staff due to the coronavirus pandemic.
