The funding received will be utilized to strengthen the general operations of ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc., furthering its mission and focusing on the importance of language revitalization.

Organization leaders say the grant will play a pivotal role in fortifying connections within the Native Hawaiian community and aligns with OHA’s commitment to strategic directions that include quality housing, educational pathways, economic stability and health outcomes.

This series of events includes the annual Hāna Community Winter Show which features community groups and Hāna School class performances; hosting a holiday photo booth for free professional family portraits; and hosting a holiday craft booth at the Hāna Farmer’s Market.

Hawaiian Community Assets extends a huge mahalo to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for recognizing the organization with a $1.5 million grant to increase access to services, grants, loans, and housing opportunities for Native Hawaiians looking to rent or own homes.

A $300,000 economic stability grant was awarded to Ma Ka Hana ‘Ike Building Program in Hāna, Maui, to provide job readiness training for students in vocational trades. A $10,000 ʻAhahui event grant was awarded to Hāna Arts to help support the Hāna Farmers Market.  

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is making available more than $9 million in grant solicitations to help Native Hawaiians. Solicitations include community grants to strengthen ʻohana (family), moʻomeheu (culture) and ʻāina (land) connections, and grants to support education, health, housing, economic stability, homestead communities, and iwi kūpuna repatriation and reinternment.
