Bennie thompson calling mccarthy out in a new statement saying that it has been made clear that reports of such conclusion are baseless and well continue to pursue it in a nonpartisan and thorough manner. and we remind mccarthy of his statements including from the house floor on january 13 which are inconsistent with his recent comments. what is this telling us? >> what this is saying is that it is really showing the january 6 committee putting on united front against what they see as these inac...

Also was false. he said he had no idea. they had no concept this was going to happen. part of that call was recognizing that the taliban were there. that they were out of control. that they had taken over at least half the country and why biden was trying to tell him to lie. why would he need to lie if everything was fine? that means biden was lying to all of us about this leading to that turkey shoot at that airport. but for mcconnell to suggest -- look, they didnt have a problem with nixon. wh...

One spreader of misinformation in the same room? frank, that doesnt make sense. help me understand why that makes sense. >> it maiks sense. its cool. it makes sense because were trying on get every spokes person, every political person, every presser pen, every community engaged in this effort because we know it saves lives. so we try to be nonpartisan. not bipartisan. nonpartisan. nonpolitical. nonjudgmental. theres plenty of time for judgment on new years eve. i want to make sure we get to new...

Making and gas lighting from former president trump and all the republicans saying what he wants them to say, downplaying it and belittling it. it becomes so politicized i think its going to be really difficult for this committee to make this, get the country to see this investigation as fact-based and nonpartisan. even if it is, its just going to be a tall order convincing all of the country that thats the case. >> especially after what minority leader mccarthy did last week. so we know that ki...

Talk to me about how this is shaking out among democrats. >> they have a lot of work ahead of them. i think one of the arguments that republicaned made for not supporting and largely most of them blocking, i say as a reminder, they blocked and tried to block the idea of putting forth a nonpartisan and bipartisan independent commission, and democrats now like eli said have an uphill battle of trying to make this look like it is bipartisan. one thing that theyre going to try to do is look at the m...

Jake sherman, sahil, both live on capitol hill. thank you both. joining us now to continue the conversation, jason crow, impeachment manager. thank you so much for your time, congressman. lets start with what were hearing from our colleague jake sherman. what do you make of this battle between speaker pelosi and republican leader kevin mccarthy over his picks for the january 6th select committee. are you at all worried that this fight could, in fact, make it harder for your caucus and what spe...

Of what happened here on january 6th. >> thank, efb. thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you. >> all right. we just listened to the single republican member of this select committee to investigate 1/6. shes talking again. lets go back. all right. we thought we were going to hear a little bit more. >> she was walking, not talking. >> lets bring back david and congressman dent. david, to your point, you were saying this was going to be a circus after the commission was voted down in the senate....

Theres a really important aspect to this. so when joe manchin says, look, its an 800 page bill, its true, the for the people act has a lot of provisions, a lot of campaign finance stuff, theres voting access but independent, basically independent commissions, nonpartisan gerrymandering is a big part of that bill, and it just seems to me hey, theres two things to note about that. one is, it really would be nonpartisan in the sense that there are states that democrats control where they could prob...

Republicans initially negotiated a plan for a truly bipartisan, baby sickly a nonpartisan expert independent attack and what led to it. the republican leadership in the house and senate then turned against that negotiated proposal, even though their own side had negotiated with the democrats. the delegate of republicans worked on coming up with a nonpartisan, or bipartisan vote for it they did. it was successful. then republican leadership said no, dont vote for it anyway. republicans voted no o...
