By: Clayton Cummins NORMAN, Okla. - Criminal charges have been handed down to a man accused of shooting a dog at a Norman dog park. Jose Venegas-Carrillo, 29, was charged with one count of animal cruelty and another count of reckless conduct with a firearm in Cleveland County District Court Wednesday. Around 1 p.m. on April 3, witnesses told Norman police Venegas-Carrillo arrived at the Norman Community Dog Park with a small dog that began acting aggressive. The small dog, according to investigators, got into multiple altercations with Narvell McWilliams 7-year-old Husky, Jax. Witnesses told police McWilliams was actively trying to keep his dog away from Venegas-Carrillo’s dog.

Then, once I saw or heard the sound of a shot, that s when it all clicked. Moments before the shooting, McWilliams said his husky, Jax, had been running around the park when a small dog approached him. When Jax growled at him, McWilliams said the small dog’s owner asked him to get the dog away.

2 hrs ago The Norman Police Department responded to a Norman dog park after a report of a shot German Shepherd Saturday afternoon. When police arrived at the Norman Community Dog Park, located at 1001 E. Robinson St., the suspect on the scene claimed his dog was interacting with the victim’s dog, which became aggressive, according to a police report. That s when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun, firing one shot and hitting the victim’s dog, a German Shepherd. Witnesses at the scene told NPD the two animals appeared to be playing, according to the report. The victim took his dog to a veterinarian, and its condition is unknown.
