Midges are back in Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio Midges have emerged from Lake Erie, and the small, plumed flies are landing all over window screens, cars, and anything in their path.
“It’s definitely midge season or week!” said Martin J. Calabrese, a naturalist at Cleveland Metroparks out of North Chagrin Nature Center.
May is the usual month for midges, which hatch when the lake warms to a temperature comfortable for the flies to emerge from the pupal stage. That’s when an insect enters a dormant state to transition between larvae and an adult flying insect.
