JANUARY 20, 2011 – An additional Community Development Block Grant of $2.5 million for the flood recovery effort in Gays Mills was approved by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. Officials working with Gays Mills had lobbied the Wisconsin Department of Commerce for additional funding after a major grant for the flood recovery was significantly reduced from the anticipated amount. The reduced funding had caused CouleeCap, the non-profit agency assisting the village with replacing housing, to reduce the number of houses they intended to build from 24 to eight… The Viroqua-Cashton-North Crawford gymnastics team got their first win on the road against Reedsburg.

GAYS MILLS - Do you like poetry? A lot of people roll their eyes when the topic of poetry is brought up. Remember back in high school, when the English teacher would announce that for a few days some old poems would be the subject? Yeah, that kind of association sticks with many people. While some classmates really got into it, others just hung on for the duration.

JANUARY 6, 2011 – Sheri Schwert dances with the angles during a performance of “Anything Goes’ at North Crawford Schools… Bids by the Fischl Construction Corporation to build new public works and EMS buildings in Gays Mills were approved by the village board at their regular meeting… North Crawford-Seneca’s wrestler Zach Miller finished 2-2 at the annual Bi-State Classic hosted by Holmen High School.

DECEMBER 30, 2010 – Prairie du Chien’s 10thannual Carp Fest is rapidly on its way to becoming a major regional New Year’s Eve tradition. The initial push to drop the carp at midnight on New Year’s Eve came from Tom and Cathy Nelson. The couple watched a peach lowered in Savannah, Georgia at midnight New Year’s Eve during a vacation there. The Nelsons decided if they could drop a peach in Georgia, then, by God, the river folks in Prairie du Chien could surely drop a carp. So at midnight on December 31, 2001 it happened and it’s been happening ever since. Last year, Carp Fest drew 2,500 people…
