first, a super moon. now, a solar eclipse. the amazing photos and what the universe has in store next. stand by. good evening, everyone. today we saw it, american police officers with night sticks and shields forcefully shut down a public demonstration. it happened in chicago. several people were hurt, a few dozen arrested, and the prediction of possible violence around the nato summit came true. protest marches early in the day were loud but uneventful, but then it happened. something or somebody made all hell break loose. watch. chicago police say the crowd was about 2,500 strong when the tension escalated. it happened not far from where president obama and more than 50 world leaders were juggling issues facing afghanistan and nato. the city s top police officer blames a small group of trouble-makers. there was a group of what we commonly refer to as the black bloc folks who kind of rallied together, they put their masks on, and we had intelligence from the crowd th
special guest at graduation. president obama will give the commencement speech. the nato conference in chicago ground zero for diplomacy and protests. a fierce confrontation yesterday between protesters and police left dozens of people injured on both sides. today more demonstrations are planned. our ted rowlands has been basically in the thick of all of that. protesters, ted, vowing to shut down, i understand, boeing s chicago headquarters today. what is happening now? is it fairly peaceful here? have they managed to shut down anything? they re just finishing a march, suzanne, arriving at boeing headquarters, and there s a couple hundred people there, so at this point it s been very peaceful. they have just been marching through the streets of chicago, but we ll see what happens in the next hour or two as they entrench themselves at boeing. we ve been hearing some reports that they are possibly shutting down some streets. if they do that, police may be forced to go in an

the suspect shuffled into the courtroom, his wrists and ankles shackled just like every other criminal defendant. tonight we know the cause of viola s death, strangulation and blunt force trauma. he stood before a judge on his arraignment on murder charges, 24 hours after his arrest in georgetown for the murder of his wife. this morning i was relieved they have taken him into custody. this is a startling thing to happen. there have been police here for hours. i think everyone is frightened. now we can breathe a sigh of relief. reporter: the arrest was an unusual development in a homicide investigation which uncovered muth s violent protection orders from his wife and his gay lover. muth sent me 30 e-mails yesterday boasting his innocence and pedigree. he says he is in the military and strongly implied he worked in intelligence for the u.s. government. the iraqi embassy said it was deeply troubled by his claims and issued a statement. he is not currently and has never bee
