Indianapolis crime: Man arrested in fatal shooting on east side

View Comments Indianapolis police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a man found late Wednesday by officers after they heard gunshots on the east side. Detectives arrested 34-year-old Bruce McClinton in connection with the fatal shooting that police say occurred in the 1000 block of North Rural Street. Police said investigators do not believe the shooting was random. Patrolling officers heard several shots being fired just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday near North Rural Street and East 10th Street and found the man shot. Indianapolis fire crews responded to the scene and pronounced him dead. The man’s identity had not been released as of Thursday afternoon.

Indianapolis crime: Man convicted of killing friend, battering women

View Comments An Indianapolis man convicted of battering two pregnant women and fatally shooting his friend has been sentenced to 45 years in prison in the 2018 incident, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.  Perise Fowler was found guilty earlier this year in the slaying of 39-year-old Byron Miller after a two-day trial. “Far too often guns are unnecessarily introduced into arguments and have tragic and far-reaching consequences,” said Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a news release. “This sentence demonstrates a commitment to justice and accountability, though no resolution can truly remedy the pain of losing a loved one and the impact on the community.”
