Georgia woman charged with stealing $107K from church

GAINESVILLE, Ga, (AP) — A north Georgia woman has been arrested on charges that she stole about $107,000 from the church where she worked.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said 49-year-old Alycia Christy turned herself in on a felony theft charge on Jan. 15.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth told The Times of Gainesville that Christy worked as an administrative assistant at Northlake Baptist Church and took funds from the church between January 2018 and January of this year. Investigators said she used the money to pay credit card bills.

A Dahlonega woman is accused of embezzling from a Hall County church.
HALL COUNTY, Ga. - The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said a Dahlonega woman stole more than $106,000 from the Gainesville church for which she worked.
Investigators said 49-year-old Alycia Christy, a former Northlake Baptist Church administrative assistant, was using church money to pay credit card bills.
Deputies believe she stole money from January 2018 until January 2021.
Hall County Sheriff’s deputies first responded to a call at Northlake Baptist Church on January 12.
Christy turned herself in on January 15, but news of the felony charges she’s facing shocked people who live nearby.
A Dahlonega woman was arrested Friday and faces a felony theft by taking charge after she allegedly stole nearly $107,000 from the North Hall County church she worked for.
According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation found that 49-year-old Alycia Christy took the funds from Northlake Baptist Church on Thompson Bridge Road between Jan. 2018 and Jan. 2021.
Investigators first learned of the theft when deputies responded to the church on Tuesday, Jan. 12. Church officials had discovered that Christy had been stealing the funds, according to the release.
The release states Christy, an administrative assistant at the church, had used the money to pay credit card bills.
