Sergio Valdez died Feb. 17 after suffering severe burns to his arms and face when an explosion occurred at his home in the early morning hours of Jan. 20, according to his family’s attorney.

A permit granted Monday allowed workers to begin removing chunks of concrete from the site of the Sandman Hotel.

Groups of employees and guests at the hotel have filed other suits alleging negligent conduct.

One of the lawyers is accusing the hotel, restaurant and Atmos of being negligent in maintaining natural gas utilities at the building.
