With an already successful record in recent years against in-state college basketball rivals, the Purdue Boilermakers didn’t waiver from their success at the annual Crossroads Classic. They beat Notre Dame, 88-78, Saturday in Indianapolis.
With 16 wins in their last 18 games against in-state schools, marked only by losses last year against Butler, ranked No. 17 at the time, and two years ago against the Fighting Irish (2-4) at the Crossroads.
The Boilers (6-2) jumped out to a sizable early lead, 18-9, starting with an 11-0 run less than three minutes into the game. They built it to a game-high 15-point lead late in the first half.
Division I transfers for all sports get blanket waiver from NCAA, can play immediately
The NCAA Division I Council voted Wednesday to grant a blanket waiver allowing all Division I transfers to play immediately this year.
The waiver covers all Division I sports, and the most immediate impact will be felt in men s college basketball, in which a number of notable players will be able to suit up immediately as soon as Wednesday night. We are thrilled at the passing of the blanket waiver, as we believe it is in line with D1 SAAC, ensuring that all of our student-athletes have the best opportunity to thrive both academically and athletically, said Caroline Lee, vice chair of the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In a time of great uncertainty amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel it is in our best interest to grant immediate eligibility for those who have transferred in order to best support their mental health and well-being.
