see. tell us as we wait for that hopeful thing tell us about the conditions at the hospital where you are, jacqueline. reporter: yeah, here at children s health care of atlanta, they are seeing an uptick in flu. it s interesting, brianna, just last week, the majority of the respiratory illnesses at this hospital were rsv. now that s switched and flu is really what s dominating here. and so much so that their patient volume is now two to three times what is normally seen. and the hospital also has set up a tent incase it needs that space for patient overflow. there s a tent available for patients with less severe illness and injuries, so they could be seen more quickly. as now at the hospital, the wait time is more than three hours. this is something that many children s hospitals across the country are seeing due to the rise in respiratory illness.
influx of patients leading to them having two to three times their regular patient volume. and i spoke with infectious disease physician dr. shane and they said that it could be a predictor of what is to come in the northeast region of the country. have a listen. oftentimes the rsv starts in the southeast and then moves up. and so what we do probably predict will happen is that some of the northern states will start to see more children with influenza after they see more children with rsv. and here in the southeast, georgia is one of the states across the country seeing high levels of respiratory activity right now. we should have a man of p of th states. and this is something that the health officials are watching closely. and joining me nor more on
