This is not necessarily going to happen. but the risk is, if the meltdown is uncontrolled, that this could happen. and this is an important point about this. what i just described is not the same as a nuclear explosion. it is not this. it would not be a nuclear bomb. it would not be a mushroom cloud. but it could be a large explosion that spread nuclear material. do you remember after 9/11 when we all learned the difference between a nuclear bomb and a dirty bomb? sort of the same distinction. o...

Countries? doctor? >> well, ms. king is absolutely right in pointing out that the danger is from the stored fuel, not from a nuclear explosion, which is physically impossible. there is not going to be a nuclear explosion. there is not going to be a run away chain reaction. its the fire in the storage fuel pool that were worried about. now, if that fire is the worst case scenario, what it does is it releases a lot of nonvolatile material, such as seize yum that is spread all over the countryside....

The steam turns the turbine, the turbine turns the generator, you get electricity. then take the steam and cool it back into the water. the way do you that is having a large body of water. here in the united states, we do that on big lakes. we do that on rivers. we put in a cooling tower so we need less water the but we, too, have a lot of reactors that are on the ocean or on major bays. luckily, the east coast and gulf coast are not subject to tsunami. the west coast may be. but those are desig...

800 to 16,000 in days. 28 of those workers died within three months. >> thats a meltdown. thats the difference between some steam with radiation escaping from a nuclear plant and a meltdown. >> thats exactly right. one thing i do want to underscore is even where weve seen radiation spike with some of these explosions at the nuclear plants in japan, the levels were talking about are still far below that 800 to 16,000 level you hear about at chernob chernobyl. >> right. a number of people thought ...

Evacuation centers, the people distribute it evenly amongst themselves. i saw yesterday one man handing his bowl to another elderly person who had not eaten. thats just the way this culture works. and so the issues that weve seen in other countries after a crisis like this is not something that were really expecting here. if you hear of any sort of issue like that, that will tell you that the culture is becoming -- is basically spiralling out of control. and that is just something we havent seen...
