Every year, about 10,000 alligator hunters apply for about 7,000 permits. Permits are granted to gator hunters through lottery-style selection process

Two University of Florida students enjoying a picnic Tuesday near Lake Alice were joined by an unexpected guest — an alligator. The alligator came out of the water, scared the students off, sat on their picnic blanket and proceeded to eat their food, UF police said.
