The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has declared the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2023 as the hottest ever recorded. August alone was the warmest August ever recorded, with temperatures around 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial averages. Last month was not only the hottest August scientists ever recorded by far with modern equipment, it was also the second hottest month measured, behind only July 2023, WMO and the European climate service Copernicus announced Wednesday.
