Katese begins The Book of Life by reading a letter from a perpetrator of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, in which about 800,000 people were slaughtered, expressing shame in their actions.
The Book of Life, the one-woman Spoleto Festival USA show inspired by Katese’s years-long project, focuses on finding a way to remember the lives lost in the 1994 Rwandan genocide while bringing life and peace to a still-hurting country.
The arts presenting organization will bring the well-traveled, 12-foot-tall puppet of a Syrian refugee child to Boston for an "Event of Welcome" in September, before launching on the seven productions planned for its upcoming season.
