Abortions can take place again in Arizona, at least for now, after an appeals court blocked the enforcement of a pre-statehood law that almost entirely criminalized the procedure.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana on Friday became the first state in the nation to approve abortion restrictions since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, as the Republican governor quickly signed a near-total ban on the procedure shortly after lawmakers approved it.

The measure now goes to Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb. The governor has not indicated whether he will sign it.

Indiana has become the first state in the U.S. to approve new abortion restrictions since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.
