LEWISTON The Office of Hispanic Ministry plans to offer several special Spanish prayer service opportunities in the coming weeks, in addition to Spanish masses offered in seven Maine communities.
Services will be presented at 6 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Sacred Heart Church on 65 Mellen St. in Portland, and at 6 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Lewiston.
A celebration of the coronation of the Virgin Mary will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Sacred Heart Church.

Weekly Masses in Spanish in Waterville temporarily suspended

WATERVILLE The weekly Masses in Spanish have been temporarily suspended. The Masses are traditionally celebrated at 12:15 p.m. Sundays at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, according to a news release from Dave Guthro, communications director, Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
“Many of the attendees at these Masses in Spanish are in or just under the group the vaccinations are now being directed towards as part of the state’s plan,” said Fr. Frank Morin, who celebrates the Masses, according to the release. “I met with the attendees at each of the Masses yesterday and they were supportive of the proposal. The Masses will resume at a time to be announced.”

Bishop names new director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry
Fr. Michael Sevigny to take on new role effective immediately.

PORTLAND Bishop Robert Deeley has appointed Fr. Michael Sevigny, OFM Cap., as the Diocese of Portland’s new director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry, effective immediately.
A Sanford native, Sevigny has served in the office since August. He succeeds Sr. Patricia Pora, RSM, who stepped down as director on Nov. 27 after more than a decade of service. Pora will continue as a member of the Hispanic Ministry team on a volunteer basis, according to a news release from Dave Guthro, communications director, Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
