Expenditure of our federal resources in incarceration and the i think the average on mandatory minimums is about 11year incarceration and so without going too far, are you suggesting that those resources could be applied in other ways to make us safer . Resources that would go to prosecutors, and federal agents to be able to investigate and prosecute crimes, are being diverted to the bureau of prisons. The bureau of prisons now takes up almost twothirds of the departments budget. Thats really untenable and unsustainable. So i believe that mandatory minimum sentences are an important tool. But we but that we need to use that tool effectively. Senator blumenthal . Thanks, mr. Chairman. At the outset id like to ask permission to include in the rec...

President . Guest host we are here with is that the president will breach the spirit of reform while only making minor, incremental changes. Biggeriving the decisions back to congress. Host what are those incremental decisions . Guest he could place new limits on the collection of phone data. That was the most controversial program. That would be around the edges. Senator walsh made clear that the senate would exercise its Constitutional Authority to reform its practices by a majority vote. I think the majority leader deserves more respect. The senate is not in order and the senate will be in order. The senator from...

In his 2004 Democratic Convention speech, a speech that got me involved in politics. He said that we worship an awesome god in the blue states. Then there was his address to reverend jim walliss call to a renewal conference in 2006, a speech that i was honored to work with him in the Senate Office and he developed a template for how this president would engage issues. In that speech, then senator obama declared that, our failure as progressives to tap into the moral underpinnings of this nation ...
