ROME, N.Y. – A Rome woman was scammed out of $9,000 after receiving a phony call about her granddaughter needing bail money.
According to Rome police, the victim was contacted on Tuesday, May 4, by a young girl claiming to be her granddaughter, using the granddaughter’s real name. The girl said she had just been in a car crash, and was arrested by troopers. She told the woman she was calling from a holding facility.
