Selling off the remainder of its offshore wind business, where it partnered with Orsted, resulted in an impairment charge of $1.77 billion in the fourth quarter, split between Sunrise Wind ($1.22 billion) and Revolution Wind ($545 million). The impairment charge assumes Sunrise Wind never gets built.

The $2 billion South Fork Wind farm, a 132-megawatt project expected to be completed in coming weeks or months, began sending a portion of its energy to Long Island’s South Fork in December. Eversource had developed South Fork with Orsted of Denmark. Under terms of the deal, Eversource will offload its 50% interest in South Fork Wind and Revolution Wind, a New England project, for $1.1 billion in cash.

Our progress toward energy independence from the vicissitudes of the global energy markets will not be without its frustrations and delays but making spurious connections with discredited state agencies is not helpful to the process.
