Eighty-four members were sent to help with recovery efforts from the hurricane that struck the coast of Florida Sept. 28.

As the recovery in Florida begins to scratch the surface following Hurricane Ian, among those leading the effort is a group of well-respected Ohio volunteers.

Hurricane Ian's rescue and recovery effort not only involves finding survivors, but finding and identifying those who lost their lives.

More than 80 Ohioans from OTF-1 are helping Florida recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ian, which made landfall near Fort Myers last Wednesday.

Two different groups were sent down to help. The first was sent on Wednesday.

An Ohio Task Force 1 public information officer says the team members are expected to be down in Florida for 14 days.

Thursday morning the Ohio Task Force 1 team sent more people to help with Ian.

With Florida being a popular place for formers Ohioans to move to for work or retirement, some are experiencing their first hurricane.

Relief efforts will likely ramp up as the storm is forecast to roar across the state. Heres where Greater Columbus residents can make donations:
