The Johnson City School District board of education soon will have to choose a new superintendent.
Mary Kay Roland revealed her decision to retire at a board meeting on Tuesday. She said her retirement will be effective June 30.
According to a prepared statement, Roland s retirement will cap off 48 years of service to the Johnson City Central School District.
Roland joined the district as a high school social studies teacher. After 22 years, she moved from teaching to administrative positions.
Roland recalled starting in the Johnson City School District as a kindergarten student and eventually returning to the high school as a student-teacher.
