In a press statement signed by the Benin Traditional Council BTC secretary, Mr Frank Irabor and made available to DAILY POST he said the removal of the former top priest of the church would restore sanity and lasting peace to the foremost Benin national church.

UI mourns death of its longest-serving foreign lecturer UI mourns death of its longest-serving foreign lecturer Share Nigel Henry, a British, died on Sunday, at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Until his passage, Henry was a lecturer in the Department of Classics and taught every current member of staff of the department. Among his students are, the current Dean of Students of the university, Prof ‘Keye Abiona and the incumbent Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki who graduated in 1979. Director of Public Communication, University of Ibadan, Olatunji Oladejo, said the university is saddened at the loss of the only longest serving expatriate in the university.

Views: 578 Branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Sunday assessed COVID-19 protocols in the universities and said the institutions were not ready for safe reopening. The chapters of the union, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, commented on the directive of the  National Universities Commission that universities could resume on January 18, but must adhere to COVID-19 protocols in hostels and lecture halls. ASUU said although its members  were ready to start work, government had not put measures in place for safe reopening of the schools. ASUU’s concern came amid coronavirus cases and deaths, which rose to 99,063 and 1,350  respectively on Saturday.
