Fayetteville man arrested in fatal Banner Elk Drive shooting
A man sought by police for questioning in a Banner Elk Drive killing June 3 was arrested in the killing Tuesday afternoon by Fayetteville Police.
Damian Levon McNeil, 36, of the 600 block of Banner Elk Drive, was arrested at the Fayetteville Police Department at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday on charges of first- degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the arrest report.
McNeil was sought by police for information in the shooting death of Michael Anthony McKoy, 27. McKoy was shot inside a home at the Quail Hollow Mobile Home Park off Old Bunce Road around 1:30 p.m. June 3. Police said McKoy did not live at the park.
A member of the Fayetteville City Council who tested positive for COVID-19 attended a meeting on Feb. 5 with city and federal officials.
A statement released by the city Friday would not identify the member, saying it would violate a federal law dealing with the privacy of health information.
Mayor Mitch Colvin said at a news conference Feb. 5 that he, some council members and others met informally that day with Dion Lyons, a conciliation specialist with the federal Department of Justice.
The city’s statement said everyone who was in contact with the council member who tested positive for COVID-19 has been notified.
