Community events starting to make a comeback in Worthington
The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic threw a wrench into a lot of community activities around Worthington.
But with the level of vaccinations increasing and Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement that individuals who are vaccinated may forgo wearing masks beginning June 2, community events are starting to make a comeback.
“They’ve been well-received,” Worthington Partnership executive director Annina Parini said. “I think people are just happy to get out of their house and have something to do.”
The Worthington Partnership canceled or altered its main events as a response to the pandemic.
But First Wednesdays have been reimagined going forward as Sunday Fundays – a daylong-themed DORA event taking place in Old Worthington each month.

The South Side boutique bakery
J’s Sweet Treats is set to open a second brick-and-mortar retail location, this one at Polaris Fashion Place (1500 Polaris Parkway). The bakery, founded by Juana Williams, will replace Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on the upper level of the mall. In addition to the bakery’s signature cupcakes, lemon bars and shakes, the Polaris location will offer truffles, dipped apples, an expanded selection of grab-and-go cakes and gift items such as cards and candles. “Sometimes it feels surreal what we’ve built from a part-time side hustle in my kitchen,” Williams said in an announcement. Look for an early July opening.
Table Talk: Heart State Brewing Co. puts down roots in Gahanna
Patrick Sullivan had an inkling about a market for his style of beer.
Yet when he opened Heart State Brewing Co. in late 2020 and did his first real rollout in January, even he was taken aback when the orders started pouring in.
“It is actually quite surprising,” Sullivan said. “They can’t get enough of it, I guess. And they’re always looking for something new.”
With COVID-19 and infections waning and the state opening up, it’s little surprise people want to venture out to indulge in craft beer again, he said.
